RIM Plans More Hiring as Rivals Cut Jobs in Recession

April 16 (Bloomberg) -- Research In Motion Ltd. Co-Chief Executive Officer Mike Lazaridis plans to keep hiring to spur the flow of new BlackBerry models, signaling the phone maker is withstanding a recession that forced rivals to trim payrolls.

The mobile-phone maker has more than 600 positions to fill, mostly in North America. RIM boosted its workforce by 50 percent to about 12,000 last year, he said in an interview last week at headquarters in Waterloo, Ontario.
