Handy hints for #Bristol's jobless

A series of training days are being held at Bristol's Skills Centre South West designed to give the long-term unemployed some tips about interview techniques.

Applicants need to be over 19, eligible to work in the UK and unemployed. No more than six people will attend each session, which includes a free breakfast voucher.

Christopher Morgan, director of the centre in Bond Street, said: "In the run-up to Christmas many employers, particularly in the retail trade, will be looking to boost their staffing numbers.

"Employers frequently comment on how poorly prepared people are for the interview process. This training will provide tips on how to search for jobs, how to prepare for and perform well in interviews, making a good first impression and understanding different interview styles and techniques.

"The people taking part in the course will be encouraged to recognise their individual skills and attributes and to use this to boost their confidence."

Following the training, the delegates will be invited to liaise with an employment officer from Skills Centre South West who will help them identify possible job opportunities.

The first of its kind in the region, Skills Centre South West was launched in September and provides a free, drop-in and information service for the training and employment needs of businesses, individuals and local community groups.
