Maybe you haven't changed the default URL that LinkedIn provides for your profile. Especially if you have a common name, this will make your name after the LinkedIn address appear with a bunch of ugly code and numbers.

If you have to give your LinkedIn profile address over the phone, or you wish to print it on your business card, it should be as concise and self-explanatory as possible.

It just takes 30 seconds. When you edit your LinkedIn profile, go to the "public profile" section to create your LinkedIn URL of choice.

Claiming your name here is one of the first things you should have done on LinkedIn.

For instance, I can memorize my LinkedIn Profile URL, which is http://uk.linkedin.com/in/garywpine, because I customized the last text to “garywpine”. If you have a common name, make sure you claim your URL before others do IF its not already gone.
